To overcome a chronic illness, to get rid of chronic inflammation, such as rheumatic arthritis, and to cure diabetes, our naturopathic practice Ars Biomedica recommends the following dietary advice. This diet is derived from the Nutritarian diet of physician, nutritionist, and scientist Joel Fuhrman.

Vegetables Processed food
  • All vegetables, but preferably:
  • Kolen
  • Beans
  • Mushrooms
  • Broccoli
  • Brussels sprouts
  • Sweet potatoes
  • Paprika
  • Avocado
  • Pumpkin
  • Germination
  • Ready-to-eat meals and fried food
  • Snacks
  • E-numbers, colorings, flavor enhancers
Vegetarian proteins Avoid: Animal proteins
  • Walnuts, almonds, cashews, hazelnuts
  • Flaxseed, pumpkin seeds, pine nuts, chia seeds
  • Beans, chickpeas, green peas
  • Quinoa
  • Soybean
  • Meat (at most once or twice a month)
  • All dairy products (at most 1 or 2 times per month)
  • Eggs (at most once a week)
  • Fat-free dairy products and fish (twice a week at most)
    NB. If you are just starting this diet for health reasons, we recommend that you do not eat these products at all for the first 6 weeks.
Fruit
  • All fruit, but preferably: Tropical fruit: mango, passion fruit, melon
  • Acai berries
  • Blueberries

Omega-3 fatty acids (preferably from unroasted nuts, seeds, avocado) Saturated fats, trans fats, and omega-six fatty acids

  • Whole rye

Wheat, spelt, einkorn, potato, white rice, pasta
  1. This nutritional advice is based on the “Eat to Live” plan by Joel Fuhrman, M.D., physician, nutritionist, and author.
  2. The shift to this diet can be challenging, so our advice is to start small. Begin by replacing your daily bread and/or sandwiches with salads and nuts. Good alternatives are: Seed crackers and Buckwheat pancakes.
  3. If you are taking medication, we recommend making dietary changes in consultation with your doctor/therapist.
  4. If you are going to eat meat, no more than 60 grams per week. (chicken, beef, fish).
  5. Eat as much vegetables as possible with every meal (salads, soups, baked vegetables).
  6. Ensure you get enough healthy fats and proteins by eating enough.
